Cholecystitis is an inflammation of the gallbladder, a small organ located under the liver that stores bile, a digestive juice produced by the liver. The most common cause of cholecystitis is the presence of gallstones in the gallbladder, which can block the flow of bile and cause inflammation.
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the gallbladder. The surgery is typically performed using a laparoscope, which is a thin, flexible tube equipped with a camera and light that is inserted through small incisions in the abdomen. This allows the surgeon to view the inside of the abdomen and remove the gallbladder through small incisions, rather than a large open incision.
The recovery time varies depending on the individual, but most people are able to return to normal activities within a few weeks.
