Hip Arthroscopy: Joint preservation techniques made Simple, Easy and Elegant

Introduction: Hip arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that allows surgeon to view the hip joint without making a large incision through the skin and other soft tissues.

Background: A 55-year-old female presented with deep groin pain especially while walking at a brisk pace and sudden turning around. She consulted a few surgeons who advised her rest and a probable hip replacement in the next 2 to 3 years. Her examination was positive for impingement which is abnormal contact of bones. MRI showed calcific labrum with not much arthritic changes.

Treatment and followup: She underwent hip arthroscopy and reception of the bony deformity (pincer). She had excellent pain relief and was comfortably fully weight-bearing from the first day. This technique will probably increase her native joint longevity by another 10-years if not more!
