Valproic Acid is used to treat certain types of seizures (epilepsy). It belongs to the class of medication called anticonvulsant and is useful in preventing seizures in individuals with absence seizures, partial seizures, and generalized seizures. It is also used to treat manic phases in bipolar disorder and prevent migraine headaches. Valproic acid is available in different formulations and is sold as a prescription medicine only.
