About the Department

The Department of Minimally invasive and Robotic Thoracic surgery at Yashoda hospital Secunderabad , Hyderabad is a high volume thoracic centre performing around 250 Thoracic surgical procedures every year .

Thoracic procedures are performed open , VATS ( Karl Storz unit ) and Robotic platforms ( Da vinci Si ) with 65 % of the work being done minimally invasively . The unit handles routine and complex thoracic cases of infective and malignant aetiology in addition to Thoracic trauma .

Yashoda hospital, Secunderabad also has an active Lung transplant program since Oct 2020 which has done around 25 lung transplants in 2021 . There is a vibrant interventional Pulmonology program which complements Thoracic surgery providing the ‘all under one roof concept’ as regards Lung disease

Eligibility Criteria:

Mch Cardiothoracic surgery
DNB Thoracic surgery
MS General surgery with 2 year experience in Thoracic unit

Preference will be given to candidates with work experience specific to Thoracic surgery

Objectives of the VATS Fellowship Programme:

By the end of the programme the candidate should be able to confidently perform basic VATS procedures

VATS Biopsy – Pleura & Lymphnode
VATS Decortication
VATS Wedge Resections
VATS Mediastinal Tumour Excision
VATS Bullectomy
VATS Sympathectomy
VATS Thymectomy

During the 6 month period the fellow is expected to

Perform 25 basic VATS procedures as primary surgeon under supervision of the consultant
Perform part or whole of 10 VATS lobectomies as primary surgeon under the supervision of the consultant
Assist the consultant as a first assistant in OT in all Thoracic cases
Take part in regular OT , IP and OP work as needed
Take night duties and calls in accordance with departmental needs
Take active part in academics , data collection and research activities
To publish atleast 1 article as first author in a peer reviewed journal of national or international repute
At the end of the course the candidate shall receive a fellowship completion certificate from the Dept. of Thoracic surgery, Yashoda hospital , Secunderabad

Stipend: Rs.1,12,500 / month
