Know Your Genes, Know Your Risk: Understanding Genetic Testing in Cancer
Genetic testing for cancer involves analyzing a person’s DNA to look for specific changes or mutations that may increase their risk of developing cancer or affect their treatment options. The tests are performed to look for any mutations in the genetic makeup of the patient.
While genetic tests can determine the possibility of cancer, they cannot say for sure if the person will develop cancer in their lifetime. Only a small number of such people actually end up getting cancer.
