Colon cancers in Stage III spreads to nearby lymph nodes and not yet to other parts of the body. The standard treatment for this stage is surgery to remove the section of the colon with the cancer (partial colectomy) as well as nearby lymph nodes, followed by adjuvant chemo. For some advanced colon cancers that cannot be completely removed by surgery, neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with radiation (also known as chemoradiation) may be used to shrink the cancer so that it can be surgically removed later.
