An acute myocardial infarction is also known as a heart attack, cardiac infarction, cardiopulmonary arrest, congestive heart failure, and coronary infarction.
It is a life-threatening disorder caused by insufficient blood flow due to a blockage in the artery, which results in damage to the heart muscles. It is identified by pain that extends from the left side of the chest to the shoulders and arms.
Angioplasty is a minimally invasive treatment used to treat acute myocardial infarction by unblocking the clogged arteries that supply blood to the heart. The surgery involves passing a catheter through the artery toward the blocked area. The catheter contains a little balloon connected to its end, which is inflated at the site of the blockage to unblock the artery and restore normal blood flow. The next step is to insert a mesh tube known as a stent at the site of the blockage to keep the artery from narrowing or getting blocked again.
After the procedure, the patient can go home in 12 to 24 hours with instructions to follow regarding the timely administration of prescription medication, the maintenance of a healthy diet, and adequate rest. Mr. B Venu from Hyderabad, underwent Angioplasty, under the supervision of Dr. Pramod Kumar K, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad.
