Septoplasty is a surgical procedure used to repair a deviated septum (the bone and cartilage that separate the nostrils). A deviated septum can make breathing through your nose more difficult and increase your risk of developing sinus infections due to poor drainage. This procedure improves breathing by allowing more air to flow through your nose, which alleviates the symptoms associated with it.
Endoscopic sinus surgery is used to remove blockages in the sinuses that may be associated with sinusitis, nasal polyps, nasal congestion, and nasal tumours. This procedure improves airflow through the nose and thus helps with sinus drainage, reducing the frequency and severity of sinus infections, relieving sinusitis symptoms, and allowing nasal rinses to reach the sinus cavities for cleaning and medication administration.
Septoplasty and endoscopic sinus surgery are typically performed as outpatient procedures, with the majority of patients able to go home the same day.
