Retroperitoneal liposarcoma is a rare type of malignant tumor that arises in fat cells in deep soft tissue. The dimension and weight of liposarcoma vary and those over 20 kgs are called ‘huge liposarcoma’. Due to negligence and delay in getting treatment, Mr. Ramesh Gupta, who presented with a tumor in his Retroperitoneal had a tumor that weighed about 30.2 kgs. Post investigation it was found that the huge liposarcoma was infiltrating the kidney, anterior to the inferior vena cava and posterior to the inferior vena cava, and also extending to the pelvis, pushing the kidney to the center of the tumor. Dr. K Sreekanth, Sr. Consultant Surgical Oncologist successfully completed the extensive surgery by debulking the whole tumor and making it possible for the patient to walk back home happy and healthy!
