Oral Cancer or Oral Cavity Cancer refers to uncontrolled growth of cells in the mouth, which can cause mouth sores, white or reddish patches, lumps inside the mouth, ear pain, and difficulty in swallowing. Oral cancer is classified under Head and Neck Cancers. The RapidArc radiation technique administers treatments by utilising images to direct patient placement and administration of therapy. The procedure involves analysing diagnostic image data to calculate the best way of delivering a radiation dose. RapidArc accurately targets the tumour while sparing the surrounding healthy tissues by shaping and modulating a highly focused therapy beam, The patient has less discomfort because they do not have to remain still for extended periods of time, and the entire tumour is treated with pinpoint accuracy. Radiation therapy is given five days a week for six or seven weeks. The treatment lasts for about 10 minutes for each radiation therapy session which does not require a hospital stay. Lotions are prescribed to relieve soreness in the affected area and it is advised to avoid direct sunlight.
