The Manchester-Fothergill procedure is used to treat uterine prolapse, a condition in which the uterus descends into the vaginal canal. In this procedure, a cut is made in the abdomen, and sutures are used to lift the uterus back into its normal position.
Uterine prolapse is caused by the weakening of pelvic muscles and ligaments that support the uterus and hold it in place. The weakening of those tissues can be due to factors like pregnancy and childbirth, ageing, menopause, obesity, chronic coughing, or constipation.
Anterior colposcopy is a diagnostic procedure that involves examining the front (anterior) wall of the vagina and cervix using a colposcope, which is a magnifying instrument. This procedure is commonly used to visualise the cervical and vaginal tissues to look for abnormalities like precancerous or cancerous lesions.
