Patients with immunosuppressive conditions, such as HIV, cancer, autoimmune diseases, or those taking immunosuppressive drugs, have weakened immune systems and are more susceptible to infections. In such patients, even minor infections can lead to serious complications.
Immunocompromised patients require a more complex approach to infection management than healthy patients. The antibiotics or antifungal agents to be prescribed are often dependent on the patient’s immunity status and the type of infection. The dosage and duration of treatment are customised based on the patient’s health circumstances.
In such cases, supportive care, in addition to antimicrobial therapy, is required to manage infections. If the case is severe, the patient will need to be hospitalised, placed in intensive care units, or undergo surgery.
Mrs. Nirmala Devi from Hyderabad successfully received treatment for infection due to a compromised immune system at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Venkat Raman Kola, Consultant Intensivist & Clinical Director (Critical Care).
