Takayasu’s arteritis is a rare disease that affects the aorta and its main branches, leading to narrowing and inflammation of these blood vessels. This condition can cause a range of symptoms, including fatigue, chest pain, limb weakness, and hypertension.
One of the treatments for Takayasu’s arteritis is a surgical bypass procedure, also known as vascular reconstruction. This procedure involves creating a new pathway for blood flow by using a graft to connect healthy blood vessels around the blocked or narrowed artery.
The procedure can be performed using several different techniques, including open surgery or minimally invasive endovascular techniques. The choice of procedure will depend on the location and severity of the arterial blockage.
After the procedure, patients will spend several days in the hospital to recover. During this time, they will be closely monitored to ensure that the graft is functioning properly and that there are no complications, such as bleeding or infection.
Mrs. Nischala Matta from Hyderabad underwent Surgical Bypass Procedure for Takayasu’s Arteritis at Yashoda Hospitals, under the supervision of Dr. Vikram Reddy, Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
