Traumatic brain injury (TBI) refers to a sudden blow or impact to the brain due to an accident or fall. It could also occur due to penetrative blows to the cranium. But not all types of blows to the skull may cause TBI.
Depending on the severity of the injury, the symptoms of TBI can vary and have wide-ranging physical and psychological effects. While some signs or symptoms may appear immediately after the traumatic event, others may appear days or weeks later. The diagnosis often includes a neurological evaluation and imaging tests like a CT scan or MRI.
Mechanical ventilation is used in patients with severe TBI who are unable to breathe on their own. The goal of mechanical ventilation in TBI patients is to maintain adequate oxygenation and ventilation while minimizing any further brain injury.
Yousif Rami from Sudan successfully received Mechanical Ventilation for Severe Traumatic Brain Injury at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Srinivas Midivelly, Consultant Paediatrician.
